One of the most surprising things I’ve learned about Dorchester since moving here is that it is a mecca for artists of all kinds. In the past two years I’ve met a multitude of successful photographers, painters, designers, woodworkers, architects, stylists, writers…you name it, they’re here.
One such person is painter Patricia Burson. Her work is — in a word (ok two) — absolutely stunning.
She captures light so beautifully that the play of sun and shadow literally seems to skip across the canvas. Her trees, often painted from the perspective of one standing at the trunk base looking up, encompass a lovely duality: they are at once inert and full of movement. Drawn with uncluttered, confident strokes that could practically stand on their own, folded together they read as a precisely-rendered whole.
But I have to say that my personal favorites are her landscapes. Whether they are the ones that she’s done of the dunes of Provincetown or of a winter river…
…I am immediately drawn into the calming quiet that seems to saturate each one.

Hey Meghann, I just now found the post – what a thoughtful, delightful writer, and thanks for saying all those nice things!
Aww shucks…thanks for the kind words! Your work is just beautiful…
